OPINION: Capping the Freedom Dividend at a reasonable amount

Some are happy with a $1000/mo Freedom Dividend because it won’t stop people from working, but they’re worried the next candidate will come along offering $2000.

Ways to prevent that:

  1. Require that at least 25% of the money is paid for by VAT. For example, if the VAT brought in $250/mo per person for the last 12 months, then the Dividend cannot exceed $1000/mo.
  2. Cap the Dividend at the poverty line. The US Federal Poverty Level in 2017 is $12,060/yr for a household of 1. Therefore the Dividend cannot exceed $1005/mo.

We could combine both of the above, where the Dividend must be below the lower of the two.
